Tom's April publicity

“But sound aloud the praises, and give the victor-crown, To our noble-hearted Firemen, who fear not danger's frown.” This quote from "Ode to our Firemen" is as valid now as it was when written in 1878. The Fordingbridge Camera Club exhibition (free entry) is being held to show the excellent photographic work being produced by your friends and neighbours. Of particular interest will be photographs of Fordingbridge firemen in training. Works by local schools, Burgate, Forres Sandle Manor and Trafalgar will also be featured. Photography is important to young and old because it makes you see the world, rather than just look at it. It will be held in the Town Hall on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th May and you should put this in your diary as a date not to be missed.   Visitors will be able to vote for their favourite image but a well-known photographic judge, Robin Dumbreck, will also be choosing the prints he considers to be the winners in the Club entries and also in the school entries.

We are a friendly, go-ahead club. We meet at Avonway Community Centre at 7.30pm on alternate Wednesdays. Our website, www.fordingbridgecameraclub.org.uk has our programme for the season. It is a mixture of talks by visiting top photographers coupled with opportunities to show your work and have it commented on by experienced photographic judges.

In addition to our regular meetings, we are devoting many evenings to Creative Photography for those who want to explore more advanced aspects of photography. The Practical Photography group is aimed at helping members who are new-comers to photography. These additional sessions have proven to be very popular but are only open to club members. As someone once said, “Photography is a tough life: you can be taken, framed, exposed, shot, captured, and hung all in the same day.”
